Welcome to my first blog all about what we have been up to at Tennis Champs!
This week is week 4 of the Tennis Champs Spring term and we have been learning about teamwork. When we see the singles grandslams on the television, it appears to be an individual effort. However, it doesn’t have to be… it’s actually a very sociable sport and as non-professional players we often play doubles and team matches so it’s important to learn how to work together effectively as a group.
This week we had a team skittles competition, worked in pairs to balance hoops and move in unison, held team relay races and the older children had a mini ball throwing competition which challenged them more as it became progressively more difficult… there were some amazingly long and straight throws by the end!
We also introduced the backhand, often quite a tricky shot for our youngest Champs, but they all learnt that through practicing, they got better and better until it came naturally and they were hitting amazing shots back to their grown-ups.
The lovely thing about our games and activities is that children are learning all the time without even realising it. Our carefully designed syllabus, especially for 2-6 year olds also encourages parental participation so that grown-ups can be actively involved in watching their little ones progress week on week.
We are already looking forward to balloon week next week!
